Etiquette Respect Priority

COURSE ETIQUETTE
Rules of course etiquette are there to ensure that all who play golf are able to enjoy it safely and with consideration for others. All players should therefore conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, always demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS:
    * Please do not move about or make unnecessary noise when golfers are playing nearby,
    * Do not stand too close to a player while he is playing a shot;
    * Do not stand on a player’s line of putt or cast a shadow over his line.
    * Please allow greens staff to move to a safe area if they are in your line of play.
    * Please observe Local Rules, see the back of the score card for full details.
    * No need to say but ... please ensure your behaviour does not offend, upset other visitors, members and Staff.

RESPECT FOR THE COURSE
     • Replace all divots.
     • Repair pitch marks on the green.
     • Smooth out marks and footprints made in bunkers.
     • Do not stand too close to the hole on the green.
     • Take care when handling the flag stick and removing the ball from the hole.

SLOW PLAY:
Slow play can spoil the enjoyment of golf for many. Players are encouraged to play at a reasonable pace and without undue delay.
Alton is a challenging course if you are a beginner play the Red/Blue course; you will enjoy it more.
The following guidelines should be adhered to:
   • Be ready to play as soon as it is your turn to play.
   • It is a group’s responsibility to keep up with the group in front.
   • If a group loses a clear hole and delays the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through.
   • Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind to play through.Players should limit searches to 3 minutes.
   • Having allowed the group behind to play through, they should not continue play until the group coming through has passed and is out of range.
   • When on or near the putting green, leave your bag or trolley just off the green on the way to the next tee.
   • When the play of a hole has been completed, leave the putting green quickly. Do not mark any scorecards until well clear of the green.

PRIORITY
  * Club Matches and Competitions have priority
  * As a general rule players playing fairways of a greater number have priority so the 4th Fairway has priority over the 2nd Fairway and so on.
  * Please observe Local Rules, especially with respect to playing priority see the back of the score card for full details.
  * Please ring the bell on the 5th Tee and the 7th Fairway.
  * Please allow people on the 8th Yellow/Red Tee to tee off before playing into the green from the 7th Fairway.

MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones may be taken onto the courses in silent mode solely for use in an emergency and calls should be made discreetly outside the Clubhouse. Public Wifi is available.
