Alton Golf Club is finally back in the hands of its members
Golf clubs come in many shapes and sizes, so we thought it worthwhile to let you know a little bit about our golf club.
Founded in 1908, Alton Golf Club is a par 68 parkland course in North-East Hampshire.
The course was designed by world famous golf course architect and five time Open champion, James Braid, whose portfolio includes the reknowned Gleneagles King’s & Queen’s courses. The course layout consists of nine greens and eighteen separate tees, providing a variety of challenges for golfers of all abilities.
While the course may only measure 5,622 yards, it is no pushover. To score well, you need to negotiate some testing tee shots as the course meanders through the rolling hills of the beautiful north Hampshire countryside.
In 2008, Alton GC celebrated its centenary. The club then embarked on a testing time, but a committee of members formed to save the club from being shut down. Over the next couple of years, this dedicated group, with their spirit and loyalty in conjunction with some notable charitable efforts of a number of individuals and organisations, ment the facility was retained and the golf course recovered and reformed as a charitable organisation in 2013.
Golf is a great reliever of day to day stress, and a way to retain good health. With this in mind, the club was re-formed as ‘Alton Golf Club Association’, which gained charitable company status in 2013.
The aim of the charity is to provide an unbeatable golf experience to the people of Alton and surrounding areas. Each year we run a number of charitable events. These include the provision of financial assistance to juniors, to encourage young golfers to take up the game, and also to Seniors, enabling them to continue playing golf post retirement. The charity is also proud to support people with disabilities to enjoy the game.
As always, we welcome and appreciate any help you may wish to give through donations. Further details of the Charity can be obtained by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Alton Golf Club is ours – we love it and are very proud of it.
